🚀 SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds)

  • Full Form: Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds

  • Developed By: Ministry of Education (MoE), NPTEL, IIT Madras, Google Inc., and Persistent System Ltd.

  • Core Objective: To provide free online courses accessible to all learners, bridging the digital divide.

Course Structure (The 4 Quadrants):

Every course on SWAYAM is typically organized into four quadrants:

  1. Video Lectures (e-tutorial): Engaging video content delivered by expert faculty.
  2. Downloadable/Printable Reading Material (e-content): Text-based resources like PDFs, study notes, and articles.
  3. Self-Assessment Tests: Quizzes and tests for learners to gauge their understanding.

Recent Update (2021):

The University Grants Commission (UGC) now allows Higher Educational Institutions to offer up to 40% of the total courses in a semester through the SWAYAM platform, facilitating credit transfer.

There are nine National Coordinators responsible for creating and curating content for different academic domains.

  • Aim: To offer specialized programs focused on employability and professional development.
  • Key Features:
    • Multilingual Language: Content is made available in multiple Indian languages.
    • AI-Enabled Guidance: Provides personalized course recommendations and learning paths.

📺 SWAYAM PRABHA

  • Launched By: Government of India
  • Managed By: INFLIBNET Centre (Information and Library Network Centre), under the Ministry of Education.
  • Year: 2017
  • Type: A bouquet of 40 DTH (Direct-to-Home) educational television channels.
  • Technology: Channels are transmitted via the GSAT-15 satellite.
  • Broadcast Hours: 24x7, with 4 hours of fresh content repeated 5 times a day, allowing for flexible viewing.
  • Channels Uplinked from: BISAG (Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geo-informatics), Gandhinagar.
  • Content Source: High-quality academic content is sourced from NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU, NCERT, and NIOS.
  • Core Objective: To enhance educational accessibility, especially for those with limited or no internet access, by using television as a medium.
